Mr. & Mrs. Jose Jurado with Manuel and Arthur (c.1906)

When I first added this picture to the web site I had written the names of the children as "Manuel and Ophelia". Soon after, I received an e-mail from cousin Antoinette stating that this photograph couldn't have included Ophie. The birth order began: Manuel (1904), Arthur (1906), Ernest (1909-10). A baby girl named Amelia was born 2/20/1908 and died at about 1 and 1/2 years of age according to Dolly. This may be her. However, it is more likely one of the boys. If the year is 1906, then it is Arthur. Antoinette's mom told her you can't go by the clothes because baby boys and baby girls were often dressed the same. Ophie was born in 1911.

I thanked Antoinette, went back to my source of information (Aunt Martha), and as it turns out, it was my mistake. Martha did tell me it was Manuel and Arthur. If you look at the picture, you'll see a bow on the head of the child sitting on Grandpa's lap, this is what confused me. But what surprised me more than anything else was the fact that a baby girl named Amelia had been born and I was not aware of it until Antoinette mentioned it.

As I've mentioned before, the purpose of this web site is to give our kids and grandkids a place where they can learn about their family's history - and I guess some adults can learn, too.
